【摘要】:Thismethodisfortheanalysisofusedrefinerycausticsolutions.PartAisfordeterminingthestrongbase,weakbase(spentcaustic)andtotalalkalinity.PartBisfordeterminingtheconcentrationofsulfurpresentassodiumsulfideandsodiummercaptide.Thedatageneratedusingthismethodareconsideredquantitativeovertheconcentrationrangesgenerallyencounteredinthesetypesofrefinerycausticsolutions.Refinerycausticsamplesareinherentlyunstable,andmustbeanalyzedassoonaspossibleaftertheyaredrawn.PartA,apotentiometrictitration,isanaccurateprocedureforuseindistinguishingbetweenstrongbases,i.e.,sodiumphenolateandsodiumhydroxide.TheAPPENDIXcontainsaprocedure,CausticSolutionAnalysis-DoubleIndicator,whichcanbeusedasaconvenient,althoughnotrigorous,testfortheplantcontrolofrefinerycausticsolutionsusedtoremovehydrogensulfide,mercaptansandcertainotherweakacidsfrompetroleumproducts.
